result of intoxication. I attach a declaration by Mr. Ough as to
my condition when he left at 11.45 p.m., and Mr. Chapman's
statement attached shows that I was not drunk at 3.80 A.M.
6.
I admit being late for duty on the morning
of the 26th. May but not to the extent stated in this charge.
It was not certainly later than 10.30 A.M. and I request that
Wardmaster Cooke of the Lunatic Asylum where I commence my morn-
-ing duty as "Medical Officer in Charge" may be allowed by
Government to attend with the Asylum Books and prove what time
I arrived there. I beg leave to attach testimonials and Certifi-
-cates which go back to the year 1995 when I obtained my Diplo-
-ma, which I think will help to show that the present charges
against me are not likely to be true.
I have been employed for 3 years and 8
months on the permanent staff of the Government Civil Hospital
of this Colony, and this is the first time in my career that
any charge has been brought against me, either here or elsewhere. In conclusion I would beg leave respectful-
-ly to ask that I may be furnished with copies of any documentary
evidence which is to be used against me.
I have etc..
